The Reset, Day 9: Getting Back in the Game

A purple nervous system illustration with the words Day Nine.

Man, I tell you what, I need to get back to tracking my sleep. Last night was awful. Just take a look at the numbers. It felt like I was tossing and turning every few minutes. Of course, I wasn’t, but still. Today is going to be a rough one to get through.

On the bright side, I had a good workout yesterday, and I’m planning on heading back to the gym today for some leg work. However, today is the kind of day I actually need when it comes to getting to the gym. I have a work meeting that’s going to run past my normal clock-out time, so I’ll have a tighter window to work out before picking up the kiddo from school. Why is that a good thing? Because it means I need to get in, get my workout done and not spend extra time on the elliptical trying to burn off bad calories I’ve eaten. Which also means I need to pay more attention to what I’m eating throughout the day.

Getting Back Into Sports

One other thing I’m planning is getting back into sports. I was getting into playing hockey with my old boss last year, but getting over to the rink is difficult with work right now. That’ll probably have to become a Saturday thing. Something else that’s popped up this year is baseball. There’s a batting cage about five minutes from my house, so I could easily head over during lunch and get 30 minutes of cuts in. I even brought my old high school bat back from my mom’s house on my most recent visit to Portland.

My wife and I have also talked about getting into pickleball, and there’s a climbing place near my house. These are all things designed to get my ass out of the house and active. Now it’s on me to actually do them. And who knows, maybe I’ll turn it into content because I can tell you this, a 46-year-old man doing all this stuff probably isn’t going to look very coordinated.
