The Reset, Day 16: Finding the Middle Ground

A red nervous system figure against a gold background with the words Day 16.

Boy, I assumed once we got back from Disney I’d be able to actually get into a routine and get comfortable. Life has other ideas, though. I wasn’t able to make it to the gym yesterday, but I did get some solid work in.

Today is going to be a hot mess. I have a guy coming over to continue repairing our fence that the damn storm destroyed. And we had heavy rains last night, so that really messed up my sleep. It feels like I’m already behind the eight ball today. I’m going to try to get to the gym for at least something, but who knows? If I can’t make it, I need to at least get some movement in and make sure I’m getting up from my desk every hour.

This is where things get difficult for me. When a day gets out of hand or something pops up that changes my schedule, it’s easy to just sit in my office and ignore the things I know I need to do. “I’m not making it to the gym today? Guess I’ll spend all day in my office working and do absolutely nothing else.”

If you haven’t noticed, that tends to be a trend in my life. Extremes. It’s why I spend so much time working on balance and finding that middle ground. It’s also why I’ve been leaning heavily on the Stoicism book I’ve been listening to. One chapter that’s really been helping is “Embrace Your Lack of Control.”

Today’s Plan

Today, I’m working without a rigid plan. I have a guide. Do what I can, when I can. Have my list of things I know I need to do and the things I’d like to do, focus on priorities and go from there.

We’ll see how today goes.
